The Power of Meditation - A Teen's View
I hear you; life can be tough even painful. Other times it seems downright impossible.
If you’re like me, you probably felt all kinds of stress before. For some of us, it is the occasional stress caused by e.g. high levels of schoolwork; for others, stress is something they put up with every day of their lives.
"How can I concentrate on one thing when my mind is telling me so many different things? Or, “How can I enjoy life when I constantly have to put up with other people’s expectations?"
These were questions I once asked myself. Now, I've found the answer; you do it with the help of meditation.
I´ll explain this very simply so that you too can be on the path to greatness. Try to imagine your state of mind as a highway where cars move harmoniously at the chosen speed and you, the driver, is calm and relaxed.
When you are feeling stressed or anxious, it’s still the same highway but a totally different story; the cars are moving in all directions, bumping into each other until there is a traffic jam. Imagine the number of thoughts racing through your mind rivaling the amount of noise heard in a traffic jam. It's a total mess! You suddenly find yourself powerless and at the mercy of an external source that will come and fix the situation.
Now, imagine the traffic jam and imagine yourself having the power to move the cars out of the way until you are able to drive freely again, relaxed, with no disturbances. Well, this is what meditation can do for you. It gives you the power you need to control your thoughts and keep them within healthy levels, bringing you back to a healthy state of mind.
While your natural state of mind can sometimes be a chaotic mess full of uncontrollable thoughts, the meditative state of mind is free of such thing. If you give meditation a try those days will be in the past and you will soon be saying "Remember those times when life felt impossible? Remember the times I just wanted to give up?"
Meditation will empower your mind and bring you into the future on a smooth highway. For just 30 minutes every day, you will gradually get more centered, serene and content ….What is stopping you? What do you have to lose?
